“The Eucerin Redness Relief system has been clinically proven to provide immediate redness relief and improve the condition of visibly red skin in four weeks.”
Its that time of year again–spriiiiiiing!
While I love the return of the flowers and greenery, and the longer, sunnier days, my skin does not share that love. In addition to being ruddy and generally sensitive, I also have skin allergies that manifest seasonally. When the flowers burst into bloom and green things start growing, I burst into hives and start itching.
(Man, I really got a crap deal with my skin, didn’t I?)
For the month of April and mid-way into May, I return to a very simple skin care and makeup routine. Less is more, and my skin prefers to be left along to adjust to the season. My favorite cleanser to use during that time, when my skin is in need of pampering and calming, is Eucerin Redness Relief Soothing Cleanser.
- Gentle, soap-free gel cleanses make-up and impurities without irritation
- Contains natural Licochalcone, a skin soothing extract of the licorice root
- Maintains skin’s moisture balance – won’t leave a dry, tight feeling
- Fragrance-free, soap-free, non-irritating, non-comedogenic
- Safe for sensitive skin and appropriate for Rosacea”
This is my top recommendation in cleansers, for my fellow sufferers of rosacea, or for anyone who unpredictability sensitive skin. It comes in a large 6.8 oz tube and can generally be found at most local drugstores, for a reasonable price (under $10.00). I like to stock up and purchase in bulk from Amazon, but I fully understand that not everyone is as crazy as I am.
This cleanser is gel-based, so it is neither hydrating nor harsh. It is a good middle-of-the-road consistency that will suit a wide range of skin types, from oily-combination to slightly dry, without aggravating the skin. The consistency is a bit on the loose side, and the one complaint I have about this product is how much squirts out of the tube when I dispense it. The hole in the squeeze-top is on the large side, and given how gel-like this cleanser is, it tends to glob out in a much larger amount than I really need to wash my face. Really, only a dime-sized amount of this cleanser is needed to get a good, all-over facial cleanse.
It has a bit of a yellowish tint to it which is a bit unappetizing but–hey–what can you do? I’d smear bright green goo on my face if it worked and, luckily, this cleanser does work. It has absolutely no scent and truly is one of the most non-irritating cleansers I have ever tried. I have never felt dry, tight, or otherwise irritated after using this. My skin feels clean and soft, and it is never any more red than it would be on any given day. While it does an admirable job of breaking down makeup, I would still recommend using an eye-makeup remover beforehand if you have on a lot of makeup–this cleanser doesn’t fully remove my Urban Decay 24/7 liners, for instance.
I cannot say it lives up to its claims of reducing redness after a four week period. I have used this cleanser for at least that long at one time with no visible reduction in my redness. However, during the times I use this cleanser it definitely helps improve the condition of my skin–generally, my face is less irritated, less itchy, and less prone to hives.
I have not tried any other items in the Redness Relief line, though I do use other Eucerin products in conjunction with it. A few months ago, I mentioned another Eucerin product I had discovered and fallen in love with (and continue to use daily, at the time of this post)–the Eucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Creme. That product, combined with this cleanser, have worked beautifully to keep my skin clean, hydrated, and soothed this spring.

Verdict
What can I say? Sometimes simple is best, especially in the case of sensitive skin.
While I love my high-end, fancy makeup and skin care, some drugstore products just really do for me what no pricey brand can, and I find myself returning to the Eucerin brand of products again and again, always with great results.
If your skin is red and reactive, or just sensitive and in need of some pampering, I highly suggest giving this cleanser a try.
